Tick Ridge Road is approximately .7km north of the plot. Bark Camp Branch is immediately north/downslope from the plot. Most of Bark Camp Branch so far has been successional tulip poplar with areas of beech dominance. The drainage is very steep sided. No roads or trails observed in drainage.;The plot is placed on a boulder strewn toeslope with hemlock and beech in the overstory. Thre is an abundance of ginseng in the area. Just east of the lot, several large trees have blown down, leaving an opening in the canopy. Heavy deer browse in the herb layer.
Representativeness
Plot placed to sample hemlock community on a northerly toeslope. Similar to hemlock sampled at GARI without the Rhododendron maximum.
